Matthew will be seven months old on Sunday and is growing like a weed. I think he gains a pound a day at this rate. For the past three weeks we have been formula feeding him. In all honesty I never in a million years thought I would formula feed any of my children, but here I am. I always offer the breast first in hopes he will take it. He latches on and will start to nurse, but then breaks off and screams, squirms, and tries to roll away. We will continue the process for about ten minutes before I finally just go make a bottle. We have found that my milk supply is gone....well, rather close to gone....I can't even express half an ounce at this point. It doesn't mean I will be stopping. I am determined to nurse Matthew for a year. There are ways to build up my supply. Right now I am drinking 96 ounces of water a day, eating oatmeal for breakfast, I will be making some Major Milk Makin' Cookies later today, and I'll also be stopping by a store that has Motherlove More Milk Plus drops that boost the milk supply using natural ingredients.
While this is not the option I would have chose I do see a difference in Matthew. He is having more dirty/wet diapers and the yellowish tint to his skin is gone. I feel that the past month I have actually been starving him by not just doing what I knew I needed to go to make sure that he was getting enough to eat. Granted he eats 3/4 cup worth of solids mixed with 2 TBSP of oatmeal/rice cereal as well. He is a very healthy eater.
